Happy Fall Y’all!
Is it just me, or are the months flying by? We’re already nearing the end of October! Autumn is upon us -- and has been for a while now, and my backyard is overflowing with leaves ...ugh! I’m sure some of you are experiencing the same pile-up… which means you could probably use a hand to help “pile up” those leaves. Ok, maybe I’m not the best at puns, but seriously, helping each other conquer those overwhelming tasks is exactly what Handlender is all about. So, whaddya waitin’ for? Go submit a request! You know what else is pretty neat? The fact that people have been asking me, “Does anyone else need help?” We have Handlender members who are literally waiting to help with your requests. So don’t be afraid to say you need a hand! Did you know? You don’t have to be an expert to lend a hand. At registration, some of you may have thought, “I’m not skilled at any of these things on this list!” Well, it might help to know that you don’t need to be a professional or an expert ---just capable and willing! Between organizing, cleaning, prayer, or even exercising - you’ve got something you can offer to someone else in need! We’ve added new skills/services to our list. Some of our members’ requests have prompted us to add more skills and services to our original list. A couple new things we’ve added are “prayer” and “mentoring.” Contact us if you’d like your profile to be updated with either of these skills. Website UpdatesWe’re excited to announce that we’ve officially begun website construction with actual developers! Within the coming weeks, you’ll be able to go to our website and check out our progress! You’ll find our monthly newsletters, give-away item inventory, a smoother registration process and more! Oh, and did I mention we’re excited?! Lastly, we’d still like for you to send in photos of those items you’d like to give away to your community so we can get them loaded on the site. We’re even more excited than we were when we first launched, and here’s why:
On That Note...Some of our members, and soon-to-be members, have inquired about how Handlender works. So, we put together a short FAQ list that will hopefully clear up any misperceptions: When I join Handlender, does it mean that I am required to help?No. Signing up for Handlender simply means that you are adding your skills and services to a database. And, just because you can help, doesn't mean you have to help. Do the Requesters know whether I can help before I agree to help them? No. Names, contact information, or availability is not shared with the Requester until you agree to help with their specific request, even if your skills match their needs. So, as a helper, you never have to feel bad if you’re unable or unavailable to help. Should I only add expert or professional skills and services to the database?No -- add everything you’re able to do! Of course we want you to add the professional stuff, but if you’re pretty good at whatever “it” is, or even capable and willing, then you’re perfect for the job. If I help someone, or they help me, should either of us expect payment?No. Our name is Handlender for a reason -- the idea is for our members to occasionally lend a hand. However, whenever you help another member, you’ll receive Handlender Points from our system, which will eventually earn you a little cash. What are Handlender Points?Handlender Points are our reward to you for being awesome! Whenever you help another member, you’ll receive one or more Handlender points, based on the feedback of the requester. In some cases, simply being willing to help with a request will also earn you points. When you reach 30 points, you’ll receive a $25 gift card…and everybody likes gift cards. Website Updates We’ve been busy getting the alpha launch going, so not much has changed with the official website, but hang in there...it’s coming! In the interim, we’d like to create a webpage where you can browse the free items that other members are giving away.
