What’s Handlender? Handlender is a platform that enables you to efficiently request and give occasional help to/from people you know and trust, at no cost to you, based on your availability, and at your convenience. You truly are just lending a hand (or being given a hand).
Requests can range from help with yardwork, carpooling, babysitting, hairstyling to prayer, organizing, grocery shopping, resume writing and more! The goal is to be there for one another, as a community, when you need help the most. To see a full list of services and to register, click here.
If I submit a request, when will I know who can help?Within 24-48 hours. When we receive a request, we’ll work to find a person whose skill-set matches your request, determine their availability, and connect you with them if they are able to help. Note: As we are ramping up our user database, the goal is to connect you with help within 2 days. But, in the future, you’ll ideally know who can help within minutes!
When I join Handlender, does it mean that I am required to help? No. Signing up for Handlender simply means that you are adding your skills and services to a database. And, just because you can help, doesn't mean you have to help.
How is my information handled? Very Carefully. All requests and registration information is filtered through the Handlender admin and stored in a private database. When a member indicates they are available to help with a request, their preferred method of contact is shared with the requester for the purposes of sharing logistics about the request.
Do the Requesters know whether I can help before I agree to help them? No. Names, contact information, or availability is not shared with the Requester until you agree to help with their specific request, even if your skills match their needs. So, as a helper, you never have to feel bad if you’re unable or unavailable to help.
Should I only add expert or professional skills and services to the database? No -- add everything you’re able to do! Of course we want you to add the professional stuff, but if you’re pretty good at whatever “it” is, or even capable and willing, then you’re perfect for the job.
If I help someone, or they help me, should either of us expect payment? No. Our name is Handlender for a reason -- the idea is for our members to occasionally lend a hand. However, whenever you help another member, you’ll receive Handlender Points from our system, which will eventually earn you a little cash.
How do I earn Handlender Points?Handlender Points are our reward to you for being awesome! Whenever you help another member, you’ll receive one or more Handlender points, based on the feedback of the requester. In some cases, simply being willing to help with a request will also earn you points. When you reach 30 points, you’ll receive a $25 gift card…and everybody likes gift cards.
What if I have more questions? We’d love to help! Send us an email at [email protected].

Product and Services
Often times, people spend money on services, favors, and other things they either can obtain at no cost (or close to it). Most times, what’s lacking is knowledge of who has/can do what is needed and knowledge of the most effective way to gather that information. In the same breath, it appears that many people (in certain communities) are willing, and in some cases, looking for ways to help others. Today, unfortunately, there isn’t a platform that efficiently matches the giver with the receiver for a broad set of needs.
Handlender is the platform that bridges the gap. Members/Users create a profile that lists a comprehensive skill set –known and unpublicized--that can be matched to other member’s needs. Members will also be able to display a list of items they are willing to give away to others at no cost. After the profile is created, each member will either establish a trusted community by inviting other individuals to join their community, or by joining an already established community via a larger organization. Members will have the option to leave any community at any time. Members can join any community with approval of the community initiators. When one member sends a request for a “hand”, the request will go out to everyone in their trusted community whose skill-set matches the request. This simultaneous broadcast for a helping hand makes giving and receiving help much more efficient than playing the “guessing game” to find out who’s available to meet the request. |
